Sympathetic Joy

Sympathetic Joy is one of the Four Virtues in Buddhism next to Loving Kindness, Compassion and Equanimity.

In Buddhism this is called 'Mudita'. It is the joy for the good fortune of others by opening our Heart to the world. Many people think, or at least act, as if good fortune is a limited commodity. The more someone else has, the less will there be for yourself. If one cultivates this thought it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. However it is not the Right Understanding of how things really are.

A better option is to learn to share in the Happiness of others. This is expressed through Sympathetic Joy in Buddhism and it is a Practice in Generosity.

As everything is transformative, everybody is vulnerable at any time. If we fully Acceptance of this fact and Practice Compassion towards everybody we will feel connected to the world.

Celebrate the successes of others, feel it in your Heart. Ask people what they are proud of and feel proud for them. Be it passing an exam, confronting Fear or spending time with their families.

Zen-Buddha wishes that you are able to Experience Sympathetic Joy as much as possible. In order to obtain more Happiness.

Buddha Quote:

'Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.'
